Course Overview

The NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills needed to manage workplace health and safety, identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend effective control measures.

The course is delivered through a combined approach of online presentations and structured self-paced learning. Workplace examples, case studies, and practical activities. The course is scheduled to be completed in 8 weeks.

Course Duration and Schedule

The course includes 8 sessions of 2 hours each, supported by approximately 40 hours of private study and background reading, with additional time for assessments.

Online presentations follow an agreed timetable. Participants complete guided reading, learning activities, assignments, and revision independently between sessions. Course dates and session times will be confirmed for each cohort.

Course Content

The course is organised around two units:

• GIC1: Management of Health and Safety—reasons for managing health and safety, management systems, safety culture, risk management, and performance monitoring.
• GIC2: Risk Assessment—identification and control of workplace hazards, practical risk assessment, and prioritisation of improvement actions.

Training Methodology

The proposed training approach combines:

• Online presentations: Tutor-led explanations of key topics, supported by workplace examples and discussion.
• Self-paced learning: Guided reading, study materials, quizzes, and revision activities.
• Case studies: Analysis of workplace situations to develop practical decision-making skills.
• Practical assignments: Hazard identification, selection of control measures, and workplace risk assessment exercises.
• Assessment preparation: Practice questions, guidance on assessment requirements, and feedback on learning activities.
