Description
This International Sustainability Ambassador self-study course provides a comprehensive understanding of sustainability, the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), circular economy, climate action, responsible consumption, global citizenship, and the role of sustainability ambassadors in creating positive change locally and internationally.
Delivered as a flexible three-month self-study programme, the course equips participants with the knowledge, leadership skills, and practical tools needed to promote sustainability, understand circular economic models, communicate the SDGs, mobilise communities, and support sustainable development initiatives across different sectors and cultures.
Participants will explore the relationship between sustainability, the SDGs, and the circular economy, while developing a practical Sustainability Ambassador Action Project demonstrating how knowledge can be translated into meaningful action.
Duration
3 Months – Self-Study Programme
The programme is designed to be completed over three months, allowing participants to study independently, undertake practical activities, reflect on their learning, and develop their final Sustainability Ambassador Action Project.
Participants may progress through the learning modules at their own pace while working towards completion of the required assessments and final project.

Self-Study Structure
Month 1 – Sustainability, SDGs and Global Challenges
Module 1: Foundations of Sustainability
Introduction to sustainability, sustainable development, global challenges, environmental responsibility, social wellbeing, and the evolution of the international sustainability agenda.
Module 2: The Sustainable Development Goals
A detailed exploration of the 17 SDGs, their targets, relevance, and practical application to communities, organisations, governments, and individuals.
Module 3: SDG Interlinkages and Systems Thinking
Understanding how environmental, social, and economic challenges are interconnected and how progress in one SDG can influence progress across others.
Month 2 – Circular Economy, Climate Action and Sustainable Living
Module 4: Circular Economy and Sustainability
Introduction to the circular economy and its role in creating a more sustainable future.
Participants explore the transition from the traditional linear “take–make–use–dispose” model towards circular approaches based on resource efficiency, longevity, regeneration, reuse, repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing, and recycling.
Module 5: Circular Business Models and Innovation
Exploring practical circular economy approaches in business, communities, education, manufacturing, agriculture, technology, and other sectors.
Topics include:
- Product life extension
- Sharing and collaborative models
- Product-as-a-service approaches
- Sustainable design
- Resource efficiency
- Waste prevention
- Circular supply chains
- Sustainable entrepreneurship
- Green innovation
Module 6: Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability
Exploring climate change, biodiversity, natural-resource management, pollution, sustainable lifestyles, renewable approaches, and practical climate action.
Month 3 – Sustainability Leadership and Ambassador Action
Module 7: Social Sustainability and Global Citizenship
Examining equality, inclusion, education, health, human dignity, community resilience, responsible citizenship, and the principle of leaving no one behind.
Module 8: Sustainability Leadership and Advocacy
Developing leadership, communication, advocacy, negotiation, public engagement, and awareness-raising skills are required to become an effective sustainability ambassador.
Module 9: Partnerships, Implementation and Impact
Understanding stakeholder engagement, partnership development, project implementation, monitoring, evaluation, sustainability indicators, evidence gathering, and impact reporting.
Module 10: Sustainability Ambassador Action Project
Participants develop a practical project addressing a sustainability challenge connected to one or more SDGs and/or the circular economy.
The project should demonstrate how the participant intends to move from awareness to action by identifying a challenge, proposing a solution, identifying stakeholders, establishing objectives, and defining measurable outcomes.
A Certificate of Completion will be issued to participants who successfully complete the course requirements and submit all required assignments within the scheduled three-month programme period. (International Sustainability Ambassador).
